John Legend, whose real name is John Roger Stephens, was born on December 28, 1978 in Springfield, Ohio, United States. He is a prominent figure in contemporary music, being both a singer, songwriter and pianist. Legend is well known for his unique melodic style that combines soul, R&B, gospel and pop.
John Legend started his career in 2004 with his debut album "Get Lifted". This album was a huge success, earning platinum certification and three Grammy Awards. His second album, "Once Again", was released in 2006. The success of this album solidified his reputation in the music industry.
Since then, John Legend has continued to release successful albums. One of his most famous is "Wake Up!", collaborating with The Roots in 2010. This album, which won three Grammy Awards, included covers of songs with social and political significance.
Throughout his music career, John Legend has won an impressive number of awards, including 11 Grammy Awards, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. He has also become one of the few artists to achieve EGOT status, meaning he has won the four main American entertainment awards: the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys.
Outside of his music career, Legend is known for being an active social activist. He has worked on important issues such as education reform and criminal justice.
John Legend is married to American model Chrissy Teigen. They have two children together.
