Steve Allen was an American musician, television host, and comedian. Born on December 26, 1921 in New York, he passed away on October 30, 2000 in Los Angeles. Allen started his career as a radio host in the United States, but it was on television that he found fame. He is best known for being the first host of "The Tonight Show," a late-night program on NBC, starting in 1954. His serious sketches, in-depth interviews with celebrities, and comedic skits made him a popular figure on American television. As a musician, Allen was a talented pianist. He wrote over 14,000 songs, many of which were recorded by popular artists. He also authored several books on comedy, television, and music. Despite his success, Steve Allen was also controversial. Some of his statements and actions were criticized as racist and sexist. However, he left behind a significant legacy in the American entertainment industry.
