Willan was a Canadian composer and organist. He was born in England, but moved to Canada in 1913. He studied at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music. He became a professor at the University of Toronto in 1929, and held that position until his retirement in 1966. He composed many works for the organ, as well as other instruments. He died in Toronto in 1968.
