Pekka Pohjola (born January 17, 1952 in Helsinki, Finland - died November 27, 2008 in Helsinki) was a Finnish multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, best known as a bassist, although he also played keyboards, guitars, winds and percussion. He was a member of the progressive rock band Wigwam, and also released several solo albums. Pohjola began playing the piano at age six, and the following year, took up the violin. He later switched to the electric bass, and in his teens, also began playing the double bass and electric guitar. He studied classical music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and also took jazz lessons from Jukka Linkola. In the early 1970s, Pohjola was a member of the Finnish rock band Tasavallan Presidentti. He also played with the jazz-rock group Pekka Pohjola Group, and the progressive rock band Wigwam. Pohjola's first solo album, Pekka Pohjola & Group, was released in 1974. He has since released over 20 solo albums, as well as several albums with other artists. Pohjola has also composed music for film and television, and has produced albums for other artists.
